Hanging on top of the clouds just like Mount Olympus, Erice is a pleasant Medieval hamlet in the Trapani district. During winter this little town is quite impressive, with the fog and the cold that will make you feel like time has stopped a long time ago, and during summer it’s a delightful escape from the high temperatures of the seaside, thanks to its fresh air (750 mt. above sea level). The view here is absolutely breath-taking. From the gardens of the Castle you’ll have a stunning panoramic view of Trapani, with its salt-pans and windmills, and the Aegadian islands, while the East side shows the whole, wonderful Zingaro Nature Reserve and the coast of San Vito. Founded by the Elymians, running away from Troy, the city was dominated by Romans, Normans, Svevians and Bourbons as well. Take your time to wander around the narrow streets of this town, paved and surrounded by stone houses with flowering courtyards, and ending up in little Medieval squares where the atmosphere is really enchanting. Beautiful ancient buildings are really worth a visit as well: the Venus Castle, the Cordici Museum and its wonderful pieces of art, and the Pepoli Castle. And as always, Erice has its own delicious typical products: traditional pastry with almonds and candied fruit, citrus conserve and typical wine, and of course the “Genovesi alla crema”, short pastry with custard to be eaten walking around this charming village and discovering all his ancient secrets. Among all our villas in Sicily, if you choose Erice as your destination we can assure you that you’ll enjoy the best panorama and the best ancient atmosphere!
