95 km far from the Sicilian seashore lies a wonderful little pearl in the middle of the Mediterranean: the island of Pantelleria offers to every visitor a stunning, wild scenario with ancient paths and sunsets that will let you see the African coast. This is where we picked some of our most beautiful cottages, and some of the estates part of our budget villas selection.
The tour of the island takes only two hours by car; a tour by boat is anyway the best solution to discover beautiful corners, bays, caves and a rich seabed. The land is rich in thermal springs: surely you cannot miss a visit to Venus’ Mirror Lake, a volcanic salt lake, whereas the very heart of the island is the Parco Naturale della Montagna Grande, with more than 600 botanic species. A wild land with the typical Mediterranean shrub vegetation, as well as plenty of caper plants – actually very appreciated abroad: the Pantelleria capers have become internationally famous as well as raisins and “zibibbo”, a kind of muscatel grape producing a delicious wine. The true typical characteristic of the island, however, are the “dammusi”, ancient lava-stone houses with white-dome roofs that were initially built by the Phoenicians and then modified until they reached their actual look. Walking through the island and finding these tiny and pretty buildings is quite evocative; our Pantelleria villas, as you will discover, are true dammusi as well: you really cannot miss the chance to stay in these wonderful, picturesque houses with such an enchanting landscape and sea!
