Montalbano’s crime stories take place in the fictional town of Vigata. Ideally you could imagine it as Porto Empedocle, a small port town right next to Agrigento, birthplace of the author Andrea Camilleri. Since Montalbano TV show got on air though, the unreal town of Vigata had to become very real. The choice of the setting for the show was a crucial one, since it had to combine the atmosphere of the novels but also give the viewer hints on their background and on Sicilian culture in general.

The shooting locations selected for the show are not in the Agrigento area as one could expect. Montalbano’s TV series is indeed shot in Southeastern Sicily. A number of different towns and spots on the Southern coast have become part of the imaginary yet real setting of the inspector’s adventures.

Let’s start with his home in “Marinella”. The beautiful house on the beach where Montalbano has his breakfast after his refreshing morning swim is actually in Punta Secca, near Ragusa. 200m from there you will find the restaurant “Da Enzo”, the same where Montalbano usually has lunch. If you are looking for an accommodation in the area you can check out our family villas in Sicily catalogue, where you will find plenty of villas in the Southeastern region which will be the perfect starting point of your Montalbano Sicily tour.
